FXUS66 KHNX 090546 AAA AFDHNX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Hanford CA 946 PM PST Wed Jan 8 2025 ...Update Aviation Section... && .KEY MESSAGES... 1. Freeze Warning in effect from 7 PM tonight through 9 AM Thursday morning. 2. 10 to 30 percent chance of quarter mile of visibility or less tonight. 3. Dry conditions and seasonable temperatures for the next week. 4. Next best chance for strong winds is Monday through next Wednesday with another inside slider trough. && .DISCUSSION... The inside slider that has brought the strong winds has made its way to Baja California with winds having decreased over the Sierra Nevada, Mojave Desert, and the Mojave Desert Slopes through today. Latest ensembles have an agreement that the trough will slide east through today and tomorrow allowing the ridge off the coast to strengthen again into the weekend. However, in the aftermath of the trough we have colder air in the area. A Freeze Warning is in effect from 7 PM tonight through 9 AM Thursday as there is a 30 to 60 percent chance of freezing temperatures in southern Tulare and Kings County and much of the San Joaquin Valley in western Kern County outside of Bakersfield. The rest of the Valley is looking at a 10 to 30 percent chance of visiblities of quarter mile or less tonight into tomorrow morning. Ensembles have the ridge hanging around the coast into the weekend before shifting west to be offshore as a shortwave trough amplifies as it slides into the Great Basin. The ensembles are agreeing that this trough will gradually split and a shortwave trough will develop. Ensembles have this new shortwave retrograding and becoming an inside slider as it slides across Southern California Monday through next Wednesday. This brings a concern of another big wind event as the upper level winds will again shift to be coming out of the northeast which would be a Mono Wind. This wild pattern will help keep us dry and have near seasonable temperatures. The 6-10 day CPC outlook picks up on this with a 40 to 50 percent chance of below average precipitation and equal chances of above and below average temperature. However, the 8-14 day outlook has a 33 to 40 percent chance of below average precipitation and a 33 to 50 percent chance of below average temperatures. && .AVIATION... 06z Update.
