FXUS65 KBOI 122022 AFDBOI Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 222 PM MDT Sat Apr 12 2025 .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday night...A cold front has moved east with decreasing clouds and breezy west to northwest winds up to 40 mph. Winds will continue until sunset and ease thereafter. Temperatures tonight will be in the 10s and 20s in the mountains and upper 20s to low 30s in the valleys. Sunday will remain cool and dry, with northwest winds 10-15 mph during the afternoon, and temperatures similiar to today. A ridge will build over the area on Monday with the start of a warming trend. Temperatures warm around 10 degrees on Monday with winds shifting to the south-southeast. .LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday...A weak 500mb closed low off of the SoCal coast and a ridge axis just east of our CWA will allow dry southwest flow to prevail through Wednesday evening. This will warm temperatures to 5-10 degrees above normal. The closed low is generating a lot of run-to-run model variability, however the afternoon deterministic runs haven't changed too much from this morning's forecast. The closed low is slated to move inland Thursday morning and amplify the southern periphery of a longwave trough that the GFS/EC suggest could move directly through our area. As the trough strengthens and moves south by Friday evening, it becomes a closed low, stalls over NV/UT, and finally moves east. Despite the tricky synoptic forecast; current impacts seem minimal outside of temps cooling to about normal and a 10-30% chance of precip in Idaho Thursday/Friday. && .AVIATION...VFR through Sunday. Surface winds: NW 15-25 kt with gusts to 35 kts this afternoon, calming to NW 5-15 kt around sunset. Winds aloft at 10kft: W-NW 20-35 kt. KBOI...VFR. Surface winds NW 10-20 kt with gusts 20-30 kt, becoming 5-15 kt after sunset. && .BOI WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... ID...None.
